Snow Day Craft

This past week we had three snow days in a row from Wednesday to yesterday (Friday). Our school district does NTI (Non Traditional Instruction) packets which counts as a school day so this way the kids/teachers do not have to make up the days at the end of the year. We completed them and our kids were starting to get bored and get cabin fever (being stuck in the house). I put my mom thinking into action and had all five kids do a snow day craft.

This craft will be great if you have multiple snow days in a row and need something new to do with the kids. The craft that we did was building a paper snowman. It was way too cold to go outside to build a snowman so we built one using paper.
For this craft you will need:
-Blue, red, and orange construction paper
-Plain white paper
-White paint
-Black pen or skinny black marker
-Scissors
-Glue
Our kids had so much fun doing this craft. It kept them entertained and we also were able to turn it into a moment of learning.
The only one who did not do this craft was our baby girl. I did come up with something that she cold still do. The craft was a snowy scene. For it all you need is plain white paper, a blue crayon, and white paint. She colored the white paper with the blue crayon and then did fingerprnt snowflakes all over it.

Yes, we enjoyed staying in our pajamas the past few days! That is only way to spend a snow day or two!

I hope you enjoyed reading about our snow day craft. I would love it if you shared it! Share with me in the comments what your weather is like and if you plan to do this craft or something similar.

Until next time!

  2. Those Non Traditional Instruction packets are an awesome idea. They didn't have that when I was a kid...you seem incredibly well prepared for these situations. I would have been in deep doo doo and scrambling to find something to do with them.

  3. Snow days are rough! You can only bring the kids out so much and they tend to climb up the walls. Crafts are a great distraction!

  4. What a great idea to keep kids occupied and happy during such conditions. Children usually love to get creative and make something - and the fact that everyone did get involved in one way or another was really good. A great example for other families.

  16. This looks like a fun snow day craft! We don't have snow days often -- and never several in a row -- here in Southern Texas, but perhaps this could be adapted to "hurricane days"! LOL

  18. These are some great ideas for keeping kiddos entertained during snow days. We have been having super hot days recently were we can't let our kiddos outside during the heat so we've had to come up with some creative ideas for keeping them entertained.

  19. I do think it's great that the schools prepare for that so the days don't have to be made up at the end of the year. It would be awful if you just had to tack on days to the school year. And you did great by having the kids do those crafts as well. Looked fun.

  23. I used to love doing crafts with my kids when they were little. They are grown or teenagers now, but I do have a grandbaby that will be able to do crafts with me in a few more years.

  24. The kids look so adorable lined up like that! If I married when I was younger, then probably, we could have more kids. Anyway, glad that they found something interesting to do. Keep safe, seems like the snow is getting to be too much this year huh?
