"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." -Philippians 2:3-4
This verse is so important to my life. Everyday I am thinking of someone other than myself. As a wife, I am always thinking of my husband. As a mom, I am always thinking of my kids. As a friend, I am always thinking of my friends. When I'm out and about in my community, I look for ways to help others in need.
I also know that this verse can be hard to do. When you are thinking of others all of the time, it is hard to not think of yourself first. This verse doesn't say to not think of yourself, because you should take care of yourself so you can care for others as well. This verse is saying to make sure you are also valuing others and not just yourself. We all need to look out for one another. That is what I love about the church. The church is always looking for ways to think of others and help one another. The group of friends I am in help each other out and we are always looking out for one another. I pray my readers have a group like that.
I have talked to a lot of people who have said that they always feel better when they are able to think of someone's need above their own. I don't know where you are today, but step out and think of someone else. Do something simple like sending them an encouraging note. If you want to do more, find out their need and pray about how you can help their need. Remember to look out for others and I pray that others will do the same for you.
