God Spoke Through A Toilet

The title of my blog post is probably one you have not seen in a title. If you are religious, I'm sure you know that God can use anyone and anything to speak to a person. God speaks to me all of the time and has used to different things and people to do the speaking. Before our move to a new house took place, I was cleaning the bathroom. Specifically, I was cleaning a toilet when the song, Cornerstone, came on the Pandora radio station that was playing through my phone.

Here are the lyrics for those that don't know the song: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/hillsonglive/cornerstone.html. You can listen to the song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvLxZEU02uI.

As this song played, it gave me an energy that I did not have so far that day. God spoke to me that I should rely on Him for everything. He alone is my Cornerstone. He is Lord of all. There are days I try to rely on a cup of coffee to get me through whatever is thrown my way in a day. There are days I think I need two Dr. Peppers to give me the boost I need to survive the tantrums, the housework, the driving of my kids to and from school. The days when my husband is home, I try to rely on him to help me while he is home. While the caffeine or sugar will give me a temporary boost, it won't last all day. While having my husband to help on his days off is great, my husband still needs his rest so he can be ready to work. Relying on God in the weak moments of my day will give me all the strength I need to conquer the tantrums, the housework, the driving of my kids to and from school. Relying on God is the my only answer. He is my Cornerstone in my weak moments and on my dark days of being a mom/wife/friend. Jesus is my rock that is always there for me to fall on.

God spoke that message to me through that song while I was cleaning a toilet. When I was cleaning, I was in a weak moment where I wanted to give up and admit defeat. I wanted to stop cleaning and not do it anymore because it felt so useless and unappreciated. I wanted to walk out of my house and run away for a few hours because I felt like what I was doing just didn't matter to anyone. God shook that weak moment from me and whispered to me that what I was doing mattered to Him. Such a simple thing as cleaning a toilet is doing kingdom work for God. When I get to Heaven and stand before God, the cleaning that I sometimes think is useless will be rewarded: "When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh may I then in Him be found; Dressed in His righteousness alone, Faultless stand before the throne."

There are stormy days in this journey of motherhood. I know who I can rely on to help me through my stormy days. He turns the stormy days into days where I can have faith, hope, and love.

I don't know where you are today. I don't know if you religious or not. From experience, God is the giver of everything good. If you need energy and someone to rely on, turn to God to give you all that you need (does not have to be energy, it can be something else). I hope the song gives you encouragement. I hope my post has given you encouragement as well.

  5. This was great encouragement, and reminded me of Jesus. When Jesus was baptized,God said that He was ALREADY well please. Which tells me that in the daily tasks and woodworking, Jesus gave His best. What we consider to be drab tasks, God is using to set us up for our future. God is looking for the heart in the task!

  17. It's good that when God speaks, we listen. He wants nothing but the best for us even when we're facing challenges in life, there is nothing that he would throw at us that we can't handle.
