Sick Days

The weekend was different from all of our other weekends. Our weekend started on Thursday but sadly, Rob and I were sick. We both came down with a stomach bug and we were sick into Friday and some of Saturday. Thankfully, the boys didn't get the stomach bug but on the flip side they were full of energy while Rob and I were not.

The only thing I kept thinking while I was not feeling well was that parents don't get a sick day. When we don't feel good, we keep working to take care of our kids. Rob is still recovering from his surgery so it was tough because he couldn't help with some things. We worked as a team: We let each other rest at different points, we picked up the slack where the other needed help, we took turns getting up to make sure Liam would nap, and we did our best to serve one another while we were sick.

The kids also took it easy on us. While they were full of energy, they did their best to play well together. They sensed we were not feeling well. They know to an extent that we don't get a sick day.

Parents may not get a sick day but as I have posted before, God is our healer. God is our strength. God is our rock to lean on. God gave us the strength to continue to do what we needed to do while not feeling well. God even had mercy on us and worked so that the kids we were calm. God also gave us time as a family, something we truly needed , though I wish it wasn't because Rob and I were sick.

I would love a sick day as a parent. While I would love a complete day off, I wouldn't get cuddles from my kids. The best thing when I'm sick is seeing that my kids know I don't feel well so they want to cuddle with mommy.

I am thankful for the sick days we had over the weekend. I am thankful how God worked things out just so, though we didn't understand why. Now we do.

I hope my readers had a great weekend!

Until next time, keep having faith, hope, and a lot of LOVE!

  1. I had a great weekend cleaning up our house and yard. I am so sorry you were sick.

I find my kids are more helpful when we are sick it is like they know we need the extra help or rest.

  2. Parents don't get a sick day and it is hard when both of you are down. It sounds like you were able to turn it around with a good attitude seeing what was a blessing about the weekend though. Hope you are all better now!
